MEMBER, RESCUE TEAM
A Rescue Team Member is responsible for carrying out the Rescue Team Manager's strategy for extrication of patients during incident operations and training. The Rescue Team members report to the Rescue Team Manager and must meet all the general requirements for members of CANTF2 (refer to General Requirements section).
The duties of the Rescue Team Member are:
- Responsible for implementing technical skills and operating equipment necessary for completing the rescue portion of the action plan;
- Performs rescue operations under the direct supervision of a Rescue Squad Leader and provides periodic progress reports as needed;
- Responsible for the applications of appropriate rescue tactics and techniques including rope rescue operations, confined space rescue, shoring and stabilization, breaching, victim packaging and extrication;
- Responsible for the safe and effective operation and maintenance of rescue tools and equipment;
- Performs additional tasks or duties as assigned.
Skills Required
- Knowledge and understanding of basic construction types, materials and methods;
- Ability to function within a confined space and at heights;
- Must have sufficient skills to develop a written or verbal report on the search teams progress or outcome;
- Must be mechanically-inclined and have experience with hand and power tools;
- Must be able to deploy by ground or air (fixed and rotary wing).
Skills Desired
- Official training in Incident Command System (ICS 100, ICS 200 etc..)
- NFPA or equivalent training in any of the following courses:
- Confined Space Rescue
- Rope Rescue
- Swift Water Rescue
- Trench Rescue
- Fire Officer
- Safety Officer
- Critical Incident Stress
- Hazardous Material Training;
- Structural Collapse training at a technician's level,equivalent to NFPA 1670;
- Previous experience in the use of a SCBA/SABA;
- Previous rescue experience in emergency response or military.
